BAWAR is the nation's first rape crisis center having been founded in 1971 as the direct result of the rape of a teenage girl. The treatment this young girl received by both the police and the hospital personnel was horrific. Because of this, a small group of women, including the young woman's mother, started BAWAR in an effort to effect changes in the treatment received by sexual assault survivors and to offer support and conseling to them. To this end, BAWAR offers the following services:
